Basic Purpose: Serve as the driving force behind GuideStone's data governance initiatives, ensuring the strategic alignment of data management practices with organizational objectives and fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to implement data standards, data management practices, and data stewardship.
- Monitor data management practices to ensure adherence to established policies and standards.
- Assist in the resolution of data quality issues and the implementation of corrective measures
- Manage metadata, including creation, updates, and deletion, to support organizational needs.
- Participate in the creation and maintenance of data dictionaries and other data classification systems.
- Generate reports and presentations for senior management detailing the status of data governance initiatives.
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulations regarding data governance and data management
- Collaborate effectively with business stakeholders, technology teams, and cross-functional units to understand data requirements and challenges comprehensively, ensuring a unified understanding across all parties.
- Participate in enterprise-wide data management maturity assessments to define status, future aspirations, and the guiding principles for data governance initiatives
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive enterprise data operating model covering people, processes, technology, and governance structures to achieve holistic data management excellence
- Support the identification and prioritization of Critical Data Elements (CDEs), ensuring proper governance controls and lineage tracking are applied.
- Develop and manage data governance metrics and KPIs to monitor the effectiveness of policies and stewardship activities.
- Coordinate with data architects and engineers to ensure governance standards are embedded in data architecture and platform decisions.
- Contribute to the design and administration of data governance tools (Microsoft Purview) to support cataloging, lineage, and stewardship workflows.
- Establish and oversee data access controls and classification standards to manage risk and protect sensitive information assets.
Supervisory Responsibilities and/or Relationships
- None; this position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but manages the process and is responsible for indirectly leading and managing cross-functional teams.

- Bachelor’s degree.
- Master’s Degree, preferred.
- 5+ years of direct experience, preferred.
- Experience working in Data Governance and Data Quality systems such as Purview, Collibra, Qlik, etc
- Excellent communicator able to galvanize and influence teams outside of data governance domain
- Proficient skills in MS Office and appropriate GuideStone system applications.
- Must have complete confidentiality regarding GuideStone business matters.
